SOS

Call the emergency number for where you are, and tell your contacts at the same moment.

Call the emergency number for where you are, and tell your contacts at the same moment.

SOS is in the menu, and on the Safety Check page.

Barota shows the emergency number for the country your phone is in, and your phone calls it. Barota doesn't contact emergency services for you, in any country.

What happens

  1. Barota finds the country your phone is in. It uses your phone's location, worked out on the phone itself; your position isn't sent anywhere to look it up. If location is off, it uses your connection's country. You can always change it under Not the right country?
  2. It shows your emergency number, and an ambulance or fire number too where a country has separate ones. Where Barota doesn't yet have a checked number for a country, it says so and offers 112, which reaches emergency services from most mobile phones.
  3. Tap Call. Your phone dials the number, and at the same moment your Safety Check contacts are alerted.
  4. What to tell them shows your name and where you are, so you can read it out.

Your contacts

Before you tap Call, the screen tells you who will be alerted. SOS uses your Safety Check contacts. If you have none who can be reached, it says so, and the call still works.

Your contacts are told you used SOS and when. Include where I am is on by default: it sends your position, rounded to about 100 metres, or just the country if your position isn't known. Turn it off before you tap Call to send no location.

When you're OK

Tap I'm OK on the SOS screen (or on Safety Check). Your contacts are told you're OK, and the location you shared is deleted.
