Safety from abuse and harassment

Confidential help for domestic abuse, harassment and feeling unsafe, wherever you are.

Confidential help for domestic abuse, harassment and feeling unsafe, wherever you are.

Barota is built so that you stay in control of who reaches you and what you share. If you are experiencing abuse, harassment or coercion, help is available and it is free and confidential.

If you are in danger right now

Call your local emergency number. You can find it at the top of the support list in the Safety Centre, along with local helplines for your country.

Confidential helplines

Open the Safety Centre and choose your country to see local services, including national domestic abuse helplines, women's services, and support for honour based abuse and forced marriage where available. Many lines are free, 24 hours, and do not appear on your phone bill.

Tools that keep you in control

  • Block. The person disappears from your entire Barota. They cannot see your profile, find you in search, see your posts, or message you.
  • Restrict. A quieter option. The person can still see your profile, but their comments are hidden from others until you approve them, and their messages are filtered away with no read receipts or online status. They are never told.
  • Mute. Their posts stop appearing in your feed. They are never told.
  • Report. Posts, profiles, hubs, events, listings and articles each have a report option; to report a message, report its sender from their profile. Reviewed within 24 hours, and critical reports within 1 hour.

Your privacy is protected

Your dating and matrimonial activity is invisible to the rest of Barota. Your location is never shared without your explicit permission. You choose who can message you and who can see your posts in Settings.

Share my plans

If you are meeting someone from dating or matrimonial, use Share my plans on the dating safety screen. You add where you are going, when you expect to be back, and a trusted contact. It is a simple safety net that stays private to you.

Quick exit

A red Quick exit button appears on dating, matrimonial and the Safety Centre. It leaves Barota instantly for a neutral website and tries to clear the page from your history. You can also press Escape twice.
