Professional credentials

For professions a regulator licenses or registers. Checked with that regulator, and shown only if you choose.

For professions a regulator licenses or registers. Checked with that regulator, and shown only if you choose.

How it works

  1. Open Professional credentials from Identity & checks.
  2. Enter your profession and the country where you are licensed.
  3. If Barota has that regulator on its list, enter your registration number and upload your current licence. Barota's Verification team checks it with the regulator, by hand. The badge reads Registered with [the regulator] · checked [date].
  4. If Barota does not have the regulator yet, you can still upload your licence. It is stored privately and not checked, and the badge reads Licence Document Submitted. Barota adds regulators to its list as professionals from each country arrive.
  5. Add the expiry date on your document. When it passes, the credential lapses and its badge is removed until you add a current one.

Journalism is not a licensed profession on Barota, so it is not checked as a credential.

You choose whether it shows

Once a credential is checked, or its document is stored, Barota asks whether to show it on your profile and posts. Nothing is chosen for you: you pick Show or Keep private, and you can change it at any time. A private credential is visible only to you.

Your posts

If you show a checked credential and write about health, your posts carry "Verification of registration, not the accuracy of this post." instead of the usual medical disclaimer. Your registration is checked; what you post is your own.

What it costs

A credential check is paid for by the professional being checked, never by Barota. It is not open yet. Nothing can be submitted or charged until the price is published.

Privacy

Your document is stored privately. Only you and Barota's Verification team can open it, and every opening is logged. It is deleted 30 days after the credential is withdrawn, lapses or is refused.

Reporting a problem

If the Verification team could not confirm your credential, their reason is in Your checks. To report a credential badge you think is wrong, use Report on that profile, or contact support.
