Chats for jobs, bookings and disputes

Why a Trade job, a booking or a dispute has its own chat, and what Barota review means.

Why a Trade job, a booking or a dispute has its own chat, and what Barota review means.

What these chats are

When you hire someone through Trade, make a booking, or open a dispute about a Bazaar order, that job, booking or dispute gets its own chat. It appears in Messages as its own row, labelled with what it's for, such as "Booking · Boiler service, 3 October".

It's kept apart from any personal chat with the same person. If the person servicing your boiler is also a friend, you'll have two chats with them: your usual one, and the booking's.

What "Barota review" means

While the job, booking or dispute is open, a member called Barota review is part of its chat. You'll see it in the list of people in the chat, and a note pinned at the top of the chat says so.

It's there so that if something goes wrong, Barota can look at what was said to help settle a dispute. Your personal chats never include Barota review.

When review starts and stops

Barota review joins and leaves by itself, following the job, booking or dispute. Nobody can switch it on or off by hand: not you, not the other person, and not Barota's team.

  • A Trade job: from when the job is accepted, through the work, and after it's marked complete until the payment is released or refunded. It stops sooner if the job is declined or cancelled.
  • A booking: from when you book, through confirmation, and after the appointment until the payment is released. It stops sooner if the booking is cancelled or marked as missed.
  • A Bazaar order dispute: from when the dispute is opened until it's resolved.

If a job or booking becomes active again later, for example a finished job that goes into dispute, review starts again from that moment. Anything sent in between isn't part of any review.

When review stops

A note appears in the chat with the date, and Barota review leaves the list of people in it. The chat stays in Messages and you can carry on talking.

Messages sent while review was on stay available to it. Stopping the review doesn't make them private again.

Common questions

Can we talk about the job in our personal chat instead?

You can, but anything said there isn't part of the review. If something goes wrong, the job's own chat is the one that can help settle it.

Who's in the chat?

The two people the job, booking or dispute is between. For a Trade job, that's you and the tradesperson. For a booking, you and the owner of the business. For a dispute, the buyer and the seller. A business's staff aren't added. Barota review is there as well while review is on.

Does this apply to questions I ask a seller in Bazaar?

No. Questions about a listing or an order don't have Barota review. Only a dispute gets its own chat with it.

Can I remove Barota review?

No. It follows the job, booking or dispute, so nobody can remove it by hand.
