What verification badges mean

Every badge says exactly what Barota checked, and when. Never a bare "Verified".

Every badge says exactly what Barota checked, and when. Never a bare "Verified".

A badge is a statement of one checked fact, with a date. It is shown next to the person, business or Hub it is about, always with this line:

> A badge states exactly what Barota checked, or that a document was submitted and not checked. It is not a guarantee of honesty, quality or future behaviour — always do your own research.

The badges

Blue with a tick means Barota's Verification team checked something against a public register, or a code was confirmed.

  • Registration Verified with [the register] · checked [date]: the business's registration number matched the company register named, for example Companies House, on that date.
  • Registered with [the regulator] · checked [date]: the person appears on that regulator's register for their profession on that date, for example a pharmacy council or a nursing board.
  • Email Confirmed [date]: someone running this Hub received a code at the institution's own email domain on that date.

Grey with a dashed outline and a document icon means a document was submitted and not checked. This is shown where Barota cannot check that country's register, or has no regulator for that profession on its list yet.

  • Registration Document Submitted · submitted [date]
  • Licence Document Submitted · submitted [date]

What a badge is not

  • It is not a rating, a recommendation or a guarantee.
  • It says nothing about how a business trades or how a professional practises. It records one fact that was checked.
  • There is no badge for the identity check every member completes. That is the minimum for being on Barota.

Why every badge has a date

A register can change after a check. The date lets you judge how recent it is. A check lapses when the document behind it expires, and the badge is then removed until it is checked again.

Posts by credential holders

If a member with a checked credential shows it and writes about health, their post carries "Verification of registration, not the accuracy of this post." instead of the usual medical disclaimer. A credential confirms someone is registered; it does not make what they post correct.

Reporting a problem

If a badge looks wrong, use Report on that profile or Hub, or contact support.
